Westmoreland Historic Home

STORY: After purchasing a historic century home in Westmoreland, our client moved her love of mid century modern furniture into the space, completing dining table, chairs and some art. Her living furniture just didn't quite work and was well loved and worn. So, with a complete overhaul of living and dining spaces, the client requested help - to make the home work more efficiently with mid century modern bones and an eclectic, vintage vibe using a bohemian jewel-toned palette. The Restoration Hardware modern blue-teal track arm sofa anchored the project. The client needed a space for kids, coats, projects, and relaxation.

SCOPE: While initial conversations were mostly about furniture, Gilan and Amy consulted on paint selection to bring the architecture of the period to life. We suggested a cream on ivory backdrop for what would become a gallery living room, and two peacock blue walls in the dining room, connecting the blue-teal sofa through a beautiful arched opening. The floor pan redesign provided an entry space and place for young children to do puzzles and projects while remaining open to the living/seating space for conversations. The entry incorporated an existing Folkland print settee, a pair of new Kartel Master's chairs, a vintage rug, and carved cabinet to corral art supplies. We added a 'get ready' spot to the left of the Victorian door with a mirror, coat rack, wall-mounted paper organizer and vessel for umbrellas. Comfort and durability were repeated requests and influenced the selection of soft-to-the-touch velvet, washed cotton, and pillows galore. Leaning on the bohemian color request, we moved most of the multi-colored palette to the floor with Turkish motif rugs in durable and easy care nylon blends. The client had a passion for vintage bird, butterfly, and botanical prints, so we placed a vintage heron on a prominent gallery wall, surrounded by a collection that appeared to be curated over time. The antique table was retained from the owner and staged with an existing lamp and myrtle wood bowl for dropping keys. Our client's iconic taste allowed us to select classic 'knock offs" of budget busting designers, and pull the room together with lamps, textiles, small decor, and curtains. Westmoreland Historic Home married classic and modern - vintage and new for a busy family to enjoy.
